In these harsh economic times our nation is doing everything possible to save a penny.  Target is making this task easier than ever starting November first. Now if you use reusable bags over the plastic bags that Target supplies you receive a 5-cent discount per reusable bag used. Along with Target, CVS is now giving a one dollar cash bonus on a customer’s CVS card every four times a customer uses reusable bags. In order for you to be eligible for this discount you must pay $0.99 for a tag that will be scanned along with the CVS card at the register. Although it may seem like there must be a catch to this excellent opportunity, there is not. While it may seem like the most rewarding part of this opportunity is the chance to save money, the greatest thing about this movement is saving the environment.  Americans alone use about 90 billion plastic bags a year without thinking twice. If every American knew how harmful these plastic bags are for the environment, they wouldn’t need a discount to change their minds. Other countries such as Ireland have already begun taxing these harmful bags, unlike the United States. Instead of getting rewarded for choosing reusable bags over plastic bags they are being punished for doing the opposite. So why not save the environment and your money at the same time?
