While we haven’t quite approached the Holiday seasons, the time to begin raising funds for Allatoona’s annual “Shop with a Buccaneer” has arrived! Shop with a Buccaneer is a non-profit program founded by The Helm, Allatoona’s student government, to help underprivileged children in our community have a happy Christmas and holiday season. In order to make this happen, generous student volunteers from around the school pair up and are assigned to a child in kindergarten through 8th grade. However, in order to be volunteers, each team must meet the mentor requirements listed on the Shop with a Buc application. They must have these forms along with the $100 and four teacher recommendations turned in by November 18th. “It’s a great way to give back to the community and it’s a really rewarding experience,” says junior Kelly Fairbanks who participated in the program last year. Not only is Shop with a Buc fun, but it is also an excellent way to earn community service hours and help fellow students in our area. Shop with a Buccaneer’s goal this year is to raise over $8,000 so all help is appreciated! If you are a responsible and committed person interested in participating, stop by the Helm desk or ask a Helm representative for an application. Again, the deadline for applications and money is November 18th so don’t miss your chance to be apart of this rewarding and fun experience!
