Once again, eleven delegates for Model UN represented Allatoona High School at their 2nd conference this year at Georgia State University on November 11th and 12th.  Model UN at GSU consisted of several high schools from all over the Atlanta area. For this conference, rather than representing the Netherlands, Allatoona delegates represented the country of India. This particular country consisted of several stances on world issues and every delegate researched and wrote a paper on India’s viewpoint. The main motive of the conference was to come up with resolutions amongst the countries based on the topics assigned depending on the chosen commitee. Congratulations to Lauren Gourley and Clair Collar for winning the Outstanding Delegate Award for their committee. Also, Genevieve DeVille won Honorable Mention in her committee for the United Nations Environmental Program.  These delegates along with the eight others represented Allatoona High School very well.  For many, Georgia State University was one of the most memorable experiences. Fortunately, for the next conference at KSU in March, Allatoona is allowing more people to participate in Model UN and will be representing South Africa and Jordan. Beatrice Alaras experienced a conference for her first time and said, “Going to a Model UN conference at Georgia State University was a great opportunity to learn about solving world issues.  I loved meeting so many new people and coming together during the immoderated caucuses to brainstorm ideas to use for the resolution papers. At the end of each day you feel really accomplished and prolific. I’m really looking forward to the next conference at Kennesaw State University.” For any of you who are interested in Model UN but didn’t have a chance to attend a precious conference, you will be able to experience the KSU conference in March.
