Christmas is not only a time for receiving but also for giving. On December 5th students from all grade levels here at Allatoona participated in the annual Shop with a Buccaneer. Less fortunate children from Frey, Sky View, and Pickets Mill elementary were chosen to be paired up with our students and given the chance to receive gifts that their family couldn’t normally afford. In groups of two or three, each Buccaneer received a child and spent the whole day with them. There was actually a surplus of children and some partners got two little Bucs.
The kids were served a delicious breakfast of Chick-fil-a biscuits while getting their pictures taken with Santa before everyone goes to Target for Christmas shopping. Each group raises about $100 to spend on their child for toys, clothes, and even gifts for other family members. Once all items are purchased, the groups returned to Allatoona for pizza and snacks as well as a gift wrapping session. Junior, Bryce Derriso, participated in Shop with a Buccaneer and said, “The kids were polite and were really thankful for our help. I can’t wait to do it again next year.” It was truly a heartwarming experience to make a difference in the lives of these children. Hopefully more Buccaneers will want to spread holiday cheer next year.
