Allatoona’s first home wrestling tournament of the season was held Saturday, November 21st. They put on an impressive tournament that ran smoothly because of the great deal of support the team gave and received from their booster club and parent supporters. The team showed real potential for improvement this season, as our JV wrestled competitively and placed 3rd overall, beating Blessed Trinity, North Cobb, Whitewater, and Etowah. The varsity team beat Whitewater by twenty-two team points and Stockbridge by fourty-five points, showing their vigor, as well as their intense desire for victory. Wrestling every dual aggressively, the team reflected that their strength, resiliency and stamina will determine their level of competition for this winter. They wrestled every dual competitively, and Parkview was close for the majority of the dual until they pulled away winning the last 3 matches by pin. Close matches marked the day with the Jackson County dual coming down to the last match, as did the Blessed Trinity Dual. Jackson County took 5th place, pulling through by beating Allatoona by seven team points. The varsity team broke the ice with breakthrough individual records, wreaking havoc on the mat. Wrestling weight class 103, Hunter Geiss started off his sophomore season with an extraordinary individual record of 5-0 by pinning all five opponents. Junior Nick Christakis moved up a weight class from last year, now wrestling 112, and maintained his position as a top contender, scoring a record of 5-0 with four pins and one major decision. Newcomer to Allatoona, but veteran to wrestling, Luke Rakes, weighed in at 160, began his season with a 5-0 record, pinning two opponents, winning one match with a tech fall, and also recorded a major decision. Nick Mieszala, 130, Nick Nastanovich, 140, Chris Morrison, 171, Bryson Brindle, 215, and Ryan Mckay, 119, also positively assisted the teams with their notable records of 3-2 each. All in all, Allatoona seems set for an outstanding season.
